National Library of Australia

This is the National Library Australia twitter page URL; https://twitter.com/nlagovau

I don't have a twitter account, and I am not a fan of twitter however this website looks simple enough to follow, and add to. The colour scheme is black and white for the most part with the signup button in yellow on the top left hand corner of the screen.

The graphic above the signup section is the NLA graphic.
The National Library is one of several agencies within the Regional Australia, Local Government, Arts and Sport portfolio for maintaining and disseminating Australia's cultural heritage.
The Library’s role, as defined by the National Library of Australia Act 1960, is to ensure that documentary resources of national significance relating to Australia and the Australian people, as well as significant non-Australian library materials, are collected, preserved and made accessible either through the Library itself or through collaborative arrangements with other libraries and information providers.
By offering a strong national focus in all that we do, and cooperating with others who share our goals, we support learning, creative and intellectual endeavour, and contribute to the continuing vitality of Australia’s diverse culture and heritage.

Assignment Breaththrough and Armageddon Expo

I had a recent breakthrough on my assignment, and had help understanding that I didn’t have to take the tutorial directions for Frontpage so literally. I was under the impression that if the tutorial said I needed a particular picture, then that was the picture I needed. I was quite glad to discover that wasn’t what I had to do.

I have completed the home page for my web assignment this week, and am about to submit assignment two so with any luck, I'll be finishing everything by the end of this Semester, something I wasn't too sure I was going to do two weeks ago.

I changed my profile this week by adding a profile picture.

On a non-subject related topic,  I went to the Armageddon expo at the Exhibition Centre, Jeff’s Shed, on Saturday 13th October. The Armageddon expo is a chance for people who are interested in Science Fiction, Anime, Comics, Manga, Cartoons, and there were quite a few guest panels including Chris Judge, Teal’c from Stargate who was extremely funny and well-spoken.

For those of you who didn't go to the Armageddon expo and are interested in seeing what it was like, or for those who did go and want a chance to reminisce, here's a youtube video; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FflczQ9rILE

Where am I with Frontpage?

So, where am I this week? I have been trying to figure out how to publish my website using Frontpage, using the directions given in the blackboard lessons. The instructions are great. Frontpage looks like a great product and I am finally, making, headway.

Yay! Lightbulb goes off. Read more. Read Margie's blog about the class. http://margieswebclass.blogspot.com/See where that takes me... and yes, I am wondering if I need to follow the tutorial step by step! And to be honest, I don't think I will. What I will do is use the tutorial, but do my webpage, and not the example.. let's see if that works.

This is the link I went to for the tutorial. Its quite probably familiar to a few of you already.. I'm a little slow sometimes haha.

And yep, that is the one that is on Margie's blogspot about this course. I told you I catch on quickly, not! lol

I'm still struggling with the concept of how to follow the tutorial but hopefully I can work out the kinks quickly. Onto the more fun stuff.

My link to a library related blog this time will be; http://connectinglibrarian.com/. I like this blog because its fairly direct, and it discusses what its title implies it will be discussing. The subtitle for this blog is "connecting new ideas and technologies with library service". Its last entry was in July 2012, however there are many links that you can click on the right hand side of the blog which makes finding the information you are interested in, fairly convenient.

What a great image of one of my favourite actors playing one of my favourite characters. For those of you who don't know, the actor is David Tennant and the character is Doctor Who. This jpeg comes from the website bbc.co.uk/doctorwho. I like this image because it makes me laugh because he is testing something by licking it, by tasting it, by exploring it in a tactile way which is very much in line with this particular Doctor Who manifestation. If you want it to link back to libraries and library staff then you could say that exploration, however we explore, is something that libraries and librarians, in my opinion, should be prepared to do, for themselves and for their customers. Exploration leads to information. Information leads to knowledge. Knowledge leads to further exploration.

The problem with FPtutorial2002

This is my second entry, and funnily enough it concerns the second lesson of

CREATE WEB PAGES WITH MULTIMEDIA

I am enjoying making the website, so far, however I have run into a couple of problems. Mainly, I have had to download a copy of Frontpage off the internet, through legitimate means, however this means that I don't have the FPtutorial2002 that is required to complete the assignment, mainly because of the pictures involved. It could be more than this, but I haven't progressed that far yet.

So, the problem I am having with FPtutorial2002 is basically, where is it when a person doesn't happen to have downloaded it with the copy of Frontpage itself?

Enough whinging.

So, plan B and plan C. I have sent a message off to Margie, our teacher, to see what can be done and I am thinking that plan C might just be finding the tutorial somewhere on the web, only I'm not sure that the youtube version will work except to give me even more information and I have to say, that the tutorial provided by Margie for this class has been thorough. I've just got to find the other tutorial.

I find this situation humorous, and I just can't help the feeling that I'm missing something.

See you in a few days

Libraries and First Entry

This is not only the first entry for this blog, but the first blog I have ever made, so bear with me.

So far, I have followed the instructions, and I hope that that is going to help here.

I might tell you about why I called this blog Aspergers and Doctor Who. Aspergers is something I have recently discovered has some impact on my life, and Doctor Who has always been a favourite of mine, something that has given me inspiration and courage throughout my life, it has inspired me to explore new situations.

A link to a library related blog with a description of why you like that blog

I like this blog because it discusses what happens behind the scenes at the National Library of Australia. Some of what is discussed on this blog are the following;
